As a quick aside, most Sydney studios don’t provide you with a single flat rate per developer, they provide you with one blended hourly rate that is the average of the whole team, junior and mid-level menacing the average and senior and leads – raising it. When a Sydney agency is worth the premium:
It’s here that the structure and accountability of an agency are justified when the cost of the agency is more than AUD $40,000, the agency is regulated, such as in the fintech, health or real estate sector, or when privacy compliance is truly significant, as in a build. You’re paying for the project management, QA and design part of the project that’s now combined, but there would have been three or four hires that would have needed to be coordinated yourself.
When a Sydney freelancer makes sense:
If you’re comfortable in doing your own work and you have a project under 30,000 dollars, clear-cut, no compliance, then you may have more flexibility in getting agency-level output for less money from a good freelancer at a 100-140 per hour rate. The only catch is concentration risk – one man is the whole project.
