Most rescue calls start the same way. The developer has stopped replying, left the company, or been let go. The budget is largely spent and the app is not finished, or it is live and crashing. And often nobody on the business side is sure what they actually have: who holds the code, whose name is on the app store account, whether the thing can be fixed or needs to be rebuilt.

Software Co takes over app and software projects that have gone wrong, for businesses in Sydney, Melbourne, and across Australia. We start by getting access to what you own and assessing what state it is in, then give you a written verdict that includes the option nobody likes to offer: sometimes the code is not worth saving, and starting again is cheaper. We would rather tell you that after a proper look than sell you a long rescue on a foundation that will not hold.

Why Australian Businesses Partner With Software Co for Software Rescue

A rescue is not a normal build. You are inheriting decisions you did not make, in code you did not write, often with missing documentation and a team that has lost trust in the process. The risk is that a new agency quotes a fix without looking properly, or quotes a rebuild because it is easier to sell.

Our approach separates the two jobs. First we find out what you own and what condition it is in, and put that in writing. Only then do we recommend a path, with the trade-offs of each option laid out so you can compare them. The assessment is a standalone piece of work: you can take the findings to another team if you decide not to continue with us.

App & Software Rescue

Australian Code Sovereignty, IP Recovery & Privacy Act Compliance Architecture

December 2026 Privacy Act Compliance Readiness

Mandatory privacy policy updates and algorithmic transparency auditing for software using computer programs or automated processes to make decisions affecting individuals, ensuring full compliance ahead of the 10 December 2026 enforcement deadline.

Australian IP Assignment & Code Ownership Auditing

Rigorous verification of contractual IP rights, ensuring source code repositories, custom APIs, and proprietary algorithms are legally assigned to your company before deployment resumes.

Australian Cloud Infrastructure & Security Isolation

Migration of compromised or exposed databases into secure, ISO 27001-compliant AWS or Azure cloud environments hosted strictly in Sydney and Melbourne, ensuring data sovereignty under the Privacy Act 1988.

Core Technical Recovery & Project Takeover Solutions

The Developer or Agency Has Gone

The team has disappeared, the relationship has broken down, or the freelancer has moved on. Priority one is getting access to the source code, accounts, and documentation before anything else is attempted.

A Build That Is Late, Over Budget, or Stalled

The project has run past its timeline and budget with little to show, or demos and progress reports no longer match what actually exists. We check what has really been built against what was promised and what the remaining work honestly looks like.

A Live App That Crashes, Runs Slow, or Cannot Ship Updates

The app works for some users and fails for others, releases keep breaking things, or updates are blocked because the app no longer meets app store requirements for current operating system versions.

An Offshore or Freelancer Build Nobody Can Maintain

The code works but has no tests, no documentation, and conventions only the original developer understood. We assess maintainability and security, and bring it up to a standard another team can work with.

A Platform on an Unsupported or End-of-Life Stack

The product runs on frameworks, libraries, or hosting that are no longer supported and are accumulating security and compatibility risk. We plan a staged modernisation against the live product where possible, rather than a switch-off-and-rebuild.

An App Built Quickly With AI Tools or a No-Code Platform

Some products built fast with AI code tools or no-code platforms reach real users and then hit limits in security, scale, data handling, or ownership. We review what is there and recommend whether to harden it or rebuild.

Our 6-Step Software Rescue Delivery Lifecycle

01

Access & Ownership Recovery

Before any technical work, we establish what you can reach: the source code repository, the Apple Developer and Google Play accounts, cloud hosting, domain names, third-party service accounts, API keys, and any documentation. Who owns what depends on your contract with the previous developer, and where there is a dispute we suggest you take legal advice in parallel.

02

Rescue Assessment

We review the codebase, architecture, dependencies, security basics, infrastructure, crash and performance data, and the gap between claimed and actual progress. The output is a written report with a plain verdict: stabilise, refactor, or rebuild, with the trade-offs of each and one recommendation.

03

Stabilise

If the product is live, we fix what is hurting users first: crashes, outages, data risks, and blocked releases, and put monitoring in place so problems show up before customers report them.

04

Reduce the Debt or Modernise

We refactor, add tests, set up a repeatable build and release process, and update unsupported components in stages, working against the running product rather than pausing it where we can.

05

Resume Delivery

With the foundation steady, the feature roadmap restarts, under the same short, visible sprints we use on any build.

06

Documentation & Handover

We document the system, keep accounts and infrastructure in your name, and leave the project in a state where another team could pick it up. You should not become dependent on us the way you may have been on the last developer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my project worth rescuing, or should I start again?

-

That is what the assessment decides, and we will tell you if starting again is the better option. A project is usually worth rescuing when the core architecture is sound and the problems sit on top of it, and usually not when the foundation is unsafe, unsupported, or so tangled that every fix creates two new problems. We lay out the options with their trade-offs rather than defaulting to the one that earns us more.
