Software Co builds custom SaaS products for Australian founders and operators, from the first working version to a multi-tenant platform with billing, roles and audit logs. We settle tenancy, billing and trust decisions before the build, because they are the costliest to change later, and we are upfront about what the R&D Tax Incentive will and will not cover. Our teams work from Sydney and Melbourne and serve clients Australia wide.

The R&D Tax Incentive Reality: Eligibility & Compliance Guidance

Possibly in part, and often not at all, so do not budget around it without advice.

The refundable offset is 43.5 percent of eligible R&D spend for companies with turnover under $20 million, and at least $20,000 of eligible expenditure is needed. But eligibility turns on technical uncertainty and documented experiments, not on the product being new to your business. Advisers point out that standard application development on established frameworks, API integration, UI work, performance tuning and building a familiar kind of product usually do not qualify, and that only the experimental part of a project can be claimed.

Registration with AusIndustry is due within ten months of the end of your income year, so a missed deadline costs the whole year’s claim. If you think part of your build is genuinely experimental, speak to a registered R&D adviser before the work starts, and we will help you keep the records they need: hypotheses, test results and failure notes.

SaaS Product Development

Why Australian Founders & Product Leaders Partner With Software Co

We start with decisions, not features

The Day-One Decisions workshop settles tenancy, billing and trust before the build, because those are the choices that cost most to reverse.

Honest about the R&D Tax Incentive

Many agencies wave the incentive around as a selling point. Most standard SaaS development does not qualify, and we will say so. Where genuine experimental work exists, we help you keep the records an adviser will need.

Built by engineers who have shipped multi-role platforms

Our case studies include multi-site practice management software and a four-user-type healthcare platform with payments. We describe those projects only as their case studies do.

You own the product

We aim to build in your accounts and hand over documentation, so investors, acquirers and future developers can pick it up.

Core Engineering Solutions for B2B & B2C SaaS Products

Multi-Tenant SaaS Platforms

Shared infrastructure with strict data separation between customers, tenant-aware admin tools and a design that scales from the first customer to the thousandth without a rebuild.

Subscription Billing & Plans

Plans, trials, upgrades, downgrades, invoices and failed-payment handling, connected to a payment provider such as Stripe and to your accounting system.

Roles, Teams & Admin Consoles

Organisation accounts, user roles, invitations, permissions and an internal admin console so your own team can support customers without touching the database.

Integrations & Public APIs

Connections to the tools your customers already use, and a documented API for those who want to build on yours. See our API and systems integration service for detail.

Trust Features: Audit Logs, Data Export & Access Controls

The features business buyers look for in due diligence: who did what and when, exporting and deleting customer data, and controlling who can see what.

Product Analytics & Usage Telemetry

Measurement built in from the start, so you can see activation, retention and which plans and features actually earn their keep.

Internal Tool to Product Conversion

Turning software you built for your own operations into something other businesses can subscribe to, including separating customer data, adding billing and rewriting the parts that assumed one user.

The Three Day-One Decisions Architectural Framework

Tenancy

Do customers share infrastructure with strict separation, or do some need their own environment? This decides your running cost, your upgrade process and the customers you can win.

Billing

Per seat, per usage, tiered or hybrid? Billing models shape the data you must capture and are painful to change once customers have plans.

Trust

What will your first business customers ask: access controls, audit trails, data export, backups, where data is kept? Decide the minimum now, because retrofitting is slower than building.

Australian SaaS Security, Sovereign Infrastructure & Privacy Compliance Architecture

Building a successful Australian SaaS business requires strict adherence to sovereign data rules, modern security baselines, and evolving privacy legislation. We engineer platform architectures aligned strictly with local statutory standards:

December 2026 Privacy Act Automated Decision Rules

Native support for Australian Privacy Principle (APP) disclosures starting 10 December 2026. If your SaaS platform utilizes automated algorithms to rank, score, or approve individual users, we build audit logging and explainability features into the database architecture.

Xero API Developer Tier Optimization

Cost-effective integration strategies designed around Xero's March 2026 developer tier pricing updates, leveraging payload caching and batched API synchronization to reduce third-party connection overhead as your customer base scales.

Sovereign Cloud Data Residency

Hosting infrastructure configured within ISO 27001-certified AWS or Azure data centers in Sydney and Melbourne, ensuring complete compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 and providing local data residency guarantees required by Australian corporate buyers.

Our 6-Step SaaS Product Delivery Lifecycle

01

Market & Model Check

We test the idea against how customers buy today: who pays, who uses it, what they use instead and what would make them switch. If a simpler route proves it first, we say so.

02

Day-One Decisions Workshop

We settle the three choices that are expensive to change later: tenancy model, billing model and the trust features your first customers will need. The result is a short written decision record.

03

Thin-Slice Build

We build one complete path through the product, from sign-up to the core value to payment, rather than half of everything. You can put it in front of real users within the first phase.

04

Billing & Trust Layer

Subscriptions, plans, roles, audit logs, backups and data export are built and tested as a layer, so the product is ready for the first business customer who asks the hard questions.

05

Beta With Real Customers

A small group of paying or committed customers use the product while we watch usage, fix friction and tune plans. Feedback shapes the roadmap before wider launch.

06

Launch & Scale Plan

We release, monitor and agree a roadmap for what to scale first: performance, onboarding, integrations or admin tools.

What Else Is Changing for Australian SaaS Builders in 2026

Automated decision-making disclosure.

From 10 December 2026, APP entities must describe in their privacy policies the kinds of personal information used by computer programs that make, or substantially assist, decisions that significantly affect individuals. If your product scores, ranks or approves people, plan for explainability and logging.

Xero API pricing.

If your product connects to Xero, tiered developer pricing from 2 March 2026 changes your cost per customer. The Starter tier is free with five connections; paid tiers add monthly fees and data allowances. Model this in your unit economics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need custom SaaS development, or can I start with no-code or an off-the-shelf tool?

-

No, not always. If you are still testing whether people will pay, a no-code tool or an existing platform with a payment link can answer that for a fraction of the cost. Custom SaaS development makes sense once you know the problem, need control over data and workflows, or are hitting the limits of the tools you started with.
